Terms of Service
Effective date: November 4, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") cover your use of the Website Check by Awfully Helpful LLC at https://scan.awfullyhelpful.com (the "Service"). The Service is provided by Awfully Helpful LLC, a Minnesota limited liability company ("we", "us").
1. What the Service does
The Service is a website health check. It has three levels.
- Free light scan. Anyone may ask for a light scan of one public web page. We open that page in a real browser
from our own server, the way any visitor's browser would, and we read only what any visitor can see: the page,
the files it loads, its HTTP headers, its links to the same site, a few public files (such as
robots.txtandsitemap.xml), and the site's public email DNS records. The page's own scripts run, as they would for any visitor. The free result shows how many problems we found, by type. It does not say where they are. - Detailed report. Only after you prove that you control the site (a DNS record or a file on the site, see
section 4). It is a new scan of your site's home page (
https://and the site name), which may not be the page you checked for free. It shows each finding, where it is, and how to fix it, with one included re-check. The price is $29 USD, paid once, with one included re-check within 30 days after we start the original report. - Database check. Only for a database you name, after you prove you control both the site and that database (section 4). For that check we use the public database key the page itself publishes, and we ask only for row counts. We never change rows, and the database check does not read or keep them.
What we never do: log in, send forms, use a secret key we find, or try to get past a login, a firewall or any other access control. While a page loads, its own scripts may fetch data (even database rows, if the site lets any visitor read them); the scanner reads those answers only to look for problems during the scan and does not keep them. We do not scan sites on ports other than 80 and 443, or addresses on private or local networks.
Each check has one of four results: a problem, passed, could not be checked, or does not apply. "Could not be checked" is never a pass. A scan covers one page at one moment. If the same address was checked in the last 6 hours, we may show that result instead of running a new scan. A clean result does not mean a site is secure.
2. Who may use it
You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, to create an account or buy. If you use the Service for a company or other organization, you confirm that you may act for it.
3. Accounts
You sign in with a link we send to your email address. No password is used. Keep access to that email address safe: anyone who can read it can sign in as you. A sign-in link works once, for 15 minutes. A signed-in session lasts up to 30 days or until you sign out. We may close an account that breaks these Terms.
4. Proof of control and permission
- Site proof. To get a detailed report, you publish a code we give you, as a DNS TXT record
(
_awfullyhelpful-challenge.<your site>) or as the file/.well-known/awfullyhelpful-check.txton that site. You must finish this first check within 72 hours. After that, keep the code published: we check the proof again right before each detailed scan. If the proof is gone, you get no detailed report. - Database permission. To get a database check, you name the database project and make an empty check table we give you in that project. You may withdraw this permission at any time by email to support@awfullyhelpful.com. Once we act on your email, no scan uses it again. A scan that is already running when you write may finish first.
- By giving proof or permission, you confirm that you own or control that site or database, or that its owner has allowed you to have it checked. Do not publish a proof code on a site you are not allowed to change.
5. Acceptable use
You must not:
- use the Service to harm, overload, or attack any site or person;
- ask for scans to get around our limits (for example, many accounts or many networks);
- give false proof, or prove control of a site or database you are not allowed to have checked;
- copy, resell, or automate the Service without our written OK;
- try to break, probe, or get around the Service's own security or limits;
- use the Service for anything that breaks the law.
We set limits on free scans and sign-in emails, and we may change them. We may refuse or stop any scan.
6. Your site and your results
You keep all rights in your site and your data. You let us store and process the scan data only to run the Service for you (see the Privacy Policy). Results are kept for 30 days, then deleted (section 9 of the Privacy Policy).
A light scan result can be seen by anyone who has its web address. The result page shows the counts and the full address you typed, including any part after a "?". Do not type an address that holds private information or an access code. Do not share the result's address if you do not want others to see it. Detailed reports are shown only to the signed-in owner.
7. Payments and refunds
- Payment is through Stripe by card, eligible card wallets or card-funded Link. We do not see or store your full card number.
- The full report costs $29 USD once, with one re-check within 30 days. We do not add Minnesota sales tax to this current offer. Stripe emails you a receipt.
- Refunds for a materially incorrect finding. Tell us which finding you believe is wrong within 30 days after we start the original report. A person reviews the original evidence and any later evidence. If a finding was materially incorrect, we give a full refund. A problem you fixed after the scan is not by itself an incorrect finding. Inconclusive evidence does not automatically decide the claim against you.
- Use Request a review or refund on your signed-in order page, or contact us at the support address below. A request preserves relevant report evidence for review; it does not automatically issue a refund.
- We also review duplicate charges and failure to deliver the purchased report. Refunds are reviewed manually.
- This rule does not limit any right you have under the law or under your card's rules.
8. Other services we use
The Service runs on Cloudflare (web pages and database), Amazon Web Services (the scan server), Resend (email), and Stripe (payments). The software check sends the names and versions of code libraries it finds to the public OSV database (osv.dev) to look up known security problems. These services have their own terms.
9. Changes and availability
We try to keep the Service running, but we do not promise it will always be available, fast, or free of errors. We may change, pause, or stop the Service or any part of it. We have a switch that pauses the whole Service.
10. Our property
The Service, its software, text, and the Awfully Helpful name belong to us. These Terms do not give you any right to them, except to use the Service as these Terms allow. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them freely.
11. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and why: https://scan.awfullyhelpful.com/privacy
12. Ending
You may stop using the Service at any time. To delete your account, email support@awfullyhelpful.com from the address you sign in with. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms. Sections 6, 10, 13, 14, 15 and 16 still apply after that.
13. No warranty
The Service, its results and its fix suggestions are given "as is" and "as available", for information only. They are not legal, security, or professional advice. Results can be wrong or incomplete. You decide what to change on your site, and you are responsible for those changes.
14. Limit of liability
To the extent the law allows: we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses (such as lost profits, lost data, or a security incident on your site), and our total liability for any claim about the Service is limited to the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim, or $50 if you paid nothing. Some places do not allow some of these limits; then they apply only as far as allowed.
15. Indemnity
You agree to cover our reasonable costs if a claim against us comes from your breaking section 4 or 5 (for example, giving false proof of control).
16. Law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, USA, and disputes go to the state or federal courts for Blue Earth County, Minnesota. Before any claim, please contact us so we can try to fix it.
17. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We will post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change is important, we will tell signed-in users by email at least 14 days before it takes effect.
